We finally discovered the premier garage band in town . . . or maybe just the garage.
Welcome to LaGrange, a die hard rock venue born in Austin and now, at long last, becoming a man in Deep Ellum (A bar mitzvah – Texas style).
If Willie Nelson and Lady Gaga had a love child, we know what their bedroom would look like (but no idea about the closet).
This Grade-A Texas garage saloon will have you tossing back Lone Stars (Sorry Bud-heavy) and moving those alligator skinned Lucchese boots all night. Everything from the glass deer heads over the bar to the reading material in the Cowboy’s room (Our Government – Texas Edition) comes from God’s country (No, not South Beach).
Don’t let the garage door fool you - once you pass the Mesquite-topped bar and crocodile skinned booths you’ll be mesmerized by the wonder that is “the Stage” (4 smart cars wide & approximately a third of the bar). With long red velvet curtains and paintings from John Wayne’s trigger finger hanging above, the throne of a stage is fit for Texas royalty (or maybe just Prince in chaps).
While the cow-bell player starches his levis in the green room, saddle-up to the retro jukebox and set the tone for the evening (Rhinestone Cowboy – B13 . . . your welcome), lose your vision with the Texas Stadium sized projection screen or follow that tall blonde in boots to the patio’s fire pit (She was totally into you).
LaGrange is one whiskey brawl away from an authentic Texas experience.
I might just settle for the blonde.
